Being honest about vermeil in a ring
Vermeil is a legally defined standard: at least 2.5 microns of gold bonded over solid 925 sterling silver. That is five times the thickness of ordinary gold plating, and the base is a precious metal rather than the brass under most plated jewelry. It is a genuinely good material, and we sell no gold plated jewelry at all.
But a ring is the hardest test it faces. Hands touch everything — keys, desks, steering wheels, bag straps, other rings. The inside of the band rubs against the finger constantly. The wear points on a vermeil ring are the inner band and the outer edges, and those are precisely the surfaces in permanent contact with something.
What this means practically: a vermeil ring worn a few times a week will look good for years. A vermeil ring worn permanently and never removed will show wear noticeably sooner than any other vermeil piece. Where a vermeil ring is exactly right
None of the above makes vermeil a compromise. It makes it a material with a specific set of jobs it does better than solid gold at the same price.
Stacking. A stack is built from quantity, and four vermeil bands cost less than one solid gold ring. Seventeen pieces here are stacking designs. The look comes from the group, not from any single ring being examined closely.
Statement rings. At $180, vermeil buys a wide, sculptural ring with real presence. Solid gold at $180 buys something small and thin, which is the opposite of a statement. Around ten pieces here are statement designs — if scale is the point, this is the material that delivers it.
Rotation. If you enjoy changing what you wear rather than settling on one ring, three vermeil rings serve you better than one solid gold ring. Friction is also lower on a ring worn one week in three.
Testing a shape. Signets catch on things. Wide bands can be uncomfortable at a keyboard. Dome rings look different on a hand than in a photograph. Buying the vermeil version first and wearing it for a month is a cheap way to find out before committing to solid gold.

Bands and wedding shapes
Twenty of the 49 are wedding-band designs: simple, lined, beaded, leaf-patterned, engraved, scattered and celestial. As stand-alone bands these are the most versatile pieces here. As actual wedding rings they are best treated as stand-ins — a travel band, a work band for situations where you would rather not risk the real one, or a temporary ring during an engagement.
Stacking rings
Seventeen designs, mostly slim, including chevron, beaded and celestial patterns. The most cost-effective way to build a stack, though note that stacked rings rub against each other continuously, which is the fastest way to wear a surface layer. If you stack permanently, put a solid gold ring where the friction is highest.
Curved rings
Four designs, including pear and wavy shapes. These nest around a raised centre stone if you are wearing them beside an engagement ring, and they break up a run of straight bands visually.
Signets and dome rings
Slim signets, dome signets and oval dome shapes. Signets are the oldest continuous ring form in this catalogue, and the flat face gives visual weight without stones. Dome rings do the same with a curved profile.
Statement designs
Around ten pieces — spiral, wrap-around, bold and sculptural shapes. This is where vermeil's price advantage is at its largest, because these are the designs that use the most metal.
Sizing, and why it matters more for vermeil
Every ring is made to order, so size is fixed at production. For vermeil this is more consequential than for solid gold, because a vermeil ring cannot be readily resized — resizing works the metal and disturbs the gold layer at exactly the point where it is cut and rejoined.
Most designs run US 4 to 8.5 including half sizes. To measure: wrap a strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark the overlap, and measure in millimetres. Then do the same over the knuckle and take the larger of the two — the ring has to clear the knuckle to go on at all, and this is the most common sizing mistake. Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are largest.
Two adjustments worth making: a wide band fits more tightly than a narrow one at the same nominal size, so size up if you are between sizes on a statement ring. Stones
Eight pieces here use cubic zirconia, with single ruby, sapphire and emerald settings appearing in a handful more. Cubic zirconia is a deliberate match rather than a saving — a lab-grown diamond would outlast the setting holding it. Care, which determines how long it lasts
For a vermeil ring specifically, three habits matter more than anything else. Take it off before washing your hands where practical, and certainly before swimming, showering and the gym — chlorine is the most damaging thing it will meet. Put it on after hand cream, perfume and sunscreen. And take it off for manual work, cleaning and gardening, where a single knock can do more than a month of ordinary wear.
